ITS A PAWTY
Who cares if its Whopper Wednesday, if you missed Burger Pawty this past Saturday then I feel sawry for you.
Dream team Hooked Co. and BURGERS AND BARBIE$brought Toronto a one of a kind, girl- power inspired pop up that filled our tummies and our camera rolls. The duo held the event at District 28which is located on Logan ave. just off of Lakeshore blvd.
District 28 was literally the perfect location for this event, the all white setting really made the whole set up pop (not to mention it was great for awesome pics). It was just the right size, I would recommend it for any pop up.
Jessica Lagman the creator and founder of Hooked Co.describes herself as a culinary story teller and before attending the pop up I questioned what it is she meant by that, but after attending the Burger Pawty Pop up it was evident what she meant. Lagman creates dishes that speak to whoever consumes them, and they taste pretty sweet.
The Malibu was served up as the veggie slider option and damn was it delicious. The spiced chickpea and sweetcorn patty was the perfect balance of flavor. The patty was topped with a mango jalapeno lime sauce as well as a roasted tomato jam. The perfect patty was completed with fresh arugala and all came together on a chive bun. When we asked Jess what her inspo was for each burger she explained that for Louise the goal was to have her personality represented in each burger; Louise regularly whips up veggie dishes with her boyfriend, hence a veggie burger was necessary.
This unique pink creation consists of a fresh hand pressed patty from Oliffe Butcher Shopand is topped with white aged cheddar, pickled watermelon radish as well as a top secret pink sauce. This glorious sparkling slider is packed together between two pink waffles. This signature slider perfectly represents Louise and her glittery character. Not to mention her whole blog is Burgers and Barbies. The Malibuas well as the Barbie paired perfectly together on a plate and were the perfect contrast of fresh meat and fresh vegggies.
This was by far my favourite slider and funnily enough it was also Jess' favourite slider. The fresh avocado paired with spicy coconut sauce and pickled onions really did give the wow factor when paired with the shrimp and basa fillet. Jess explained that the mixture of flavors just naturally seemed meant to be. She was definitely right. This slider also was topped with a unique pineapple slaw which gave a hint of sweetness to all the savoury action going on. Jess explained "the saucier the better" and I could not agree more. The unique charcoal black bun gave the slider an edge appearance wise and did not make anyone hesitate getting it down in their tummies.
Last but certainly not least on the taste scale is the Hooked burger. This slider features another hand pressed patty by Oliffe Butcher Shop and was topped with a succulent marinated pork belly. Garnish wise this burger featured roasted garlic and sake caramelized onion aioli and was perfected by crisp romaine lettuce. Jess also slabbed on another top secret hooked sauce. It was served up on a garlic bun. Again this was plated with the anchor which ended up being perfect because you had one with extra meat and one with loads of seafood.
This savoury sweet treat was the perfect end to the slider selection. The Burger Pawty's feature post slider snack was pawpcorn shaken with parmesan cheese, crispy bacon bits, chives, sesame seeds and of course... another top secret pink seasoning. It was basically epic.
If you needed a break from the savoury tastes the Coco&Cowe Confectionaryhad you covered with their selection of yummy popsicles and pressed ice cream sandwiches (birthday cake and smores). They tasted as good as they looked and were served up from the cutest little pink Ice cream cart.
All the goodies served up at this pawty kept peoples mouths happy and their tummies full! Jess and Louise did an awesome job and were great hosts. Also a big shout out goes out to Mill St. Breweryfor their contributions as well as the Essentialist for the super fun photo booth; you can't properly enjoy a burger without a brew and cute pictures right? Also a big shout out goes out to DJ Yunodis for playing the best tracks; make sure to check out her Soundcloud. I Can't wait for the next pawty (hopefully there is another one)!
